One Second at a Time is the true story of Christine Ortoll. Her struggle is told from her own journals and by those who supported her, including family, close friends, and leading experts in the treatment area for both mental health and substance use disorder.

Her father, Mike Ortoll also shares the lessons he learned in seeking help for Christine via over twenty recovery facilities. He finds his life’s purpose founding a charity in his daughter’s name and exposing the dangers of how adverse childhood experiences can lead to mental illness and substance use disorder

Film Synopsis

One Second at a Time" is a powerful film about the impact of trauma. This powerful documentary explores a father's journey and the resilience of his daughter, Christine Ortoll, as she struggles with both mental health and substance use disorder.

 

The film provides a father's perspective on Christine's decade-long battle against her disease. Through her journals, and with insights from her family and experts, it delves into the role of trauma, the complex causes of mental illness and substance dependence, and the harsh realities associated with it.

 

This award-winning film sheds light on a leading cause of death in the United States for 18-45 years olds, offering hope and tools to confront the challenges of substance use disorder.
